Once your engine has cooled down or left over night, by opening the bonnet or engine compartment, you can locate the tank that holds the coolant. This is generally identified by a distinctive yellow cap and made of plastic.
Once found you may be able to look through the plastic tank to see the level of the water inside, however what may look like the right level may only be a stain. By rocking the car slightly you should be able to see if the liquid inside moves.
Most tanks have a minimum and maximum level, so if you discover its low you can top it up with water as a temporary measure to avoid developing future problems.
Having discovered the level is low its important to then get to your local garage to get it checked and investigated as soon as possible.
